Take it off

Take it off: removing fouling under water

Alongside keeping fouling off, we are working on ways to remove what has already settled, under water.

Underwater drone (ROV)

Our work on the other side of fouling: removing what has already settled, alongside keeping it off.

  • Stage: Being tested, Our own work

Alongside antifouling, we are also building a prototype underwater drone (ROV) for cleaning fouling off ship hulls.

Cleaning with collapsing bubbles (cavitation)

A way of cleaning ship bottoms that uses the force of bubbles as they collapse.

  • Stage: Being tested, Our own work

We are developing a cleaning device that removes fouling from ship bottoms with the force of collapsing bubbles (cavitation). The proof of concept was done at Marine Craft Kazenoko and experiments in Shenzhen, and we have a working device.

Hull cleaning with a before-and-after record

An idea for giving boat owners both a cleaned hull and a record of how it looked before and after.

  • Stage: Concept,

In the future, we are considering offering boat owners hull cleaning by underwater drone together with a record of how the hull looked before and after. Many ports restrict cleaning hulls in the water, so where and how it is done will follow each port’s rules.

A barnacle remover on rails

An idea for a device that removes barnacles from boats’ hulls at marinas.

  • Stage: Concept,

Another idea is a device that runs on rails fitted to marina piers and similar places, removing barnacles from boats’ hulls.

Measuring the state of fouling

An idea for turning the state of fouling into data.

  • Stage: Concept,

We are also considering pairing antifouling treatment and underwater cleaning with a way to measure the state of fouling: recording it as data, to keep watch on how fouled a surface is and to check the results of treatment or cleaning.
