About

A world where people
and the ocean smile.

A deep-tech company based on Kurashima Island, Kure, Hiroshima — working to realize coexistence between the ocean and humanity.

Story

One word from an oyster farmer
started everything.

Imai came from the social welfare world. Looking for ways to connect rural labor shortages with welfare personnel, he began visiting oyster farmers. What he found was the sight of people grinding barnacles off oyster cages with angle grinders.

"Can't you stop the barnacles from sticking?" he asked. "Impossible — you can't make them only stick to oysters," they laughed. But listening closely, he learned that barnacles attaching to growing oysters cause over 40% mortality — up to 90% in some locations. Preventing attachment entirely changes productivity.

Investigating further, he found that ships, aquaculture, power plant cooling systems, and underwater infrastructure around the world all equally struggled with barnacles. And at the root of all of it was another problem: "ocean data barely exists." Through METI and JETRO's entrepreneurship program "Shido Next Innovator," he met Chishaki, and they founded the company in June 2021.

After founding, they honed the technology through numerous acceleration programs, building on real-world field validation in Hiroshima and Kure. In 2022, they were selected for programs in Fukuoka, Gotanda Valley, JETRO, and Hiroshima Prefecture's HGUI. In May 2025, they graduated from their founding base at Kure Support Core and moved R&D operations to Marine Craft Kazenoko's second factory in Kurashima-cho.

"To shed light on barnacles is to shed light on the ocean."

Philosophy

Sustain first. Profit second.

Don't call barnacles the enemy
Barnacles are purifiers of the sea — crustaceans that Darwin studied for eight years. The problem is not the organism; it is that we have failed to design coexistence.
Be the right translator
The language of researchers and the language of fishermen are different. Getting the right technology to the field requires someone who can speak both.
From local to global
Cities have business. Rural areas have social challenges. The names Hiroshima and Kure serve as bridges of trust with the people on the ground.
Be sustainable ourselves
To sustain the ocean, we must first sustain ourselves. One step at a time — like a slow jog.
Team

The team turning science and business together.

DeepTech business development at a major corporation, serial entrepreneurship, maritime expertise, and materials science — members from distinct fields united by a single mission: to shed light on the ocean. This team has the eyes to find challenges on the ground, the capability to translate them into technology, and the knowledge to navigate maritime regulations.

Traction

Four years since founding.
External recognition is building.

Adoption and recognition from government, academic, corporate, and international sectors — across all dimensions — demonstrates credibility on both the technology and business fronts.
